Red Top House: Before

August 2020 - we were thick in the pandemic, but the market hadn’t gone crazy quite yet. The first time I looked at this house, it felt like just…too much. Too much work, too much smell, too much energy to reclaim it as our own. It had been sitting on the market for over 6 months, and it was pretty clear why.

About a week later, we were back, and this time, as we walked into the “great room” (which is actually not that big, but the biggest of the spaces in this little house), I saw it. Like a movie - my kids sitting at a scrubbed pine table in the corner doing their homework, our pups snoozing in front of a wood burning stove, reading a book in a chair overlooking the view - and so we put in an offer. Note: Jason was not as sold as I was, as the whole plan involved us doing 95% of the work due to budgetary reasons + over-enthusiasm on my part, but he’s really come around!

Over a year later, we have cleaned and gutted and dismantled the house, almost all by ourselves - gone is the cubby fridge, the bamboo carpets, the downstairs bathroom, the mouse pee soaked insulation, the master bedroom office style ceiling, and the creepy chandeliers. We are over here putting the pieces back together, and slowly putting together a forever kind of home (with the help of amazing friends and family.)

Thanks for following along!

Xo,

Grace
